Susan G. Komen’s 100 Mile Cycle Challenge gives people an opportunity to provide hope and help to families whose lives have been turned upside down because of breast cancer – families like Fernando’s. In August, Fernando clipped into his cycling shoes and pledged to ride 100 miles as a way to honor his mother, Patricia, while also raising funds for Komen. 

Carlene Thomas King was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in 2007. A real estate broker by trade, her experiences with breast cancer led her to an additional career, helping people with breast cancer. 

Shaun Adkins was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer when she was 44 years old. Before she was born, her grandmother passed away from the same disease.

In 2020, Domenica Lagunas underwent treatment for stage 2 triple negative breast cancer. She works out and undergoes regular wellness appointments, including annual mammograms. When she learned she had breast cancer, it came as a shock.  

Breast cancer has been a part of Elise Harris’ life for decades. Her mother and grandmother each passed away from the disease when they were in their 40s. Elise is a three-time breast cancer survivor.

Cherie Hodges was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022, the same type her mother had in the 1980s.

Shortly after Chelse Mcwilliams turned 28, in June 2020, she learned she had breast cancer.

Three years ago, Colleen Boraca’s first mammogram revealed something suspicious – 20 years after her mother passed away from breast cancer.

Thelma Brown is a Susan G. Komen research advocate and a two-time breast cancer survivor. She has worked in the nuclear engineering industry and is a self-proclaimed science nerd. When Thelma’s oldest sister was diagnosed with estrogen receptor (ER)- positive HER2-positive breast cancer, Thelma began to read everything she could find on the disease.

Barbara Hollis learned she had breast cancer in January 2018. “Research is what will find a cure for cancer,” she said. “When people support Komen, they’re supporting the researchers.”
