Following a diagnostic mammogram, breast ultrasound and biopsy, on July 18, at only 31 years old, I was diagnosed with stage III inflammatory breast cancer (IBC).
As I was getting ready for bed one night, I noticed an area of hardness in my right breast as my arm brushed my right side. It wasn’t a lump, but a solid area, and it immediately caught my attention.
At age 44, I was healthy and feeling great. I had just been to see my OBGYN for an annual exam in 2015 and he told me everything looked good. He brushed off a pink’ish patch on my left breast and told me that I might need larger bras.
I’ll never forget a comment my friend made one night about having breasts that are different sizes. It was almost as if she was supposed to bring up the topic because prior to that conversation, I had not noticed my breasts were also unequal in size.
At the age of 36, I was diagnosed with stage IV inflammatory breast cancer. I was also pregnant with our second daughter.
